Your child may well mention 'Room 30' to you. It is the hub of a range of support and intervention available to a number of pupils.

‘Room 30’ includes:

Reading Club with Year 11 Reading Buddies.

Homework Club after school from Monday to Thursday held in the Learning Resource Centre.

Successmaker – and individually tailored computer programme designed to improve literacy and numeracy.

  • The SRA programme – a structured reading recovery programme.

  • Boccia after school – St. James’ has an award winning team!

  • Specialist teaching from the Learning Support Service.

  • In class support from a large team of highly experienced Teaching Assistants.

  • Emotional Literacy and self-esteem groups.

  • Advice from a teacher who works for the Secondary Behaviour Support Service.

  • Not to mention smiles, encouragement and even shoulders to cry on!

In addition, pupils who are ‘Gifted and Talented’ are identified by this department, and, led by Miss Davies who is our Lead Professional Teacher for Gifted and Talented, enjoy a range of enrichment activities like master classes at local universities.
